Word Template for APA

From the brass tacks department to you.

Mary Callele pointed me to this very simple, useful tool that was built by Derek Gwinn at the University of Minnesota.

Microsoft Word uses document templates that contain customizable styles for headings, text, etc., and this is a template you can use when you are formatting text in APA format. If you find APA, or any style manual for that matter, as tedius as most of us, you'll like this little tool.

I know, right now you're either saying, "Why didn't I think of that?" or "I built one of those in 1999."

Faculty Self Assessment Course

I haven't looked at this, but it looks interesting. My only reservation is that there must be some commercial advantages to the company providing it, and I'm hesitant to promote any specific commercial products. Still, it might be useful to some of us, so I'm posting it without any recommendation one way or the other.

Here's the note that accompanied the email announcement to all CAUCE 2004 registrants.

**********************************************

Just a reminder that the Faculty Self Assessment Course will open tomorrow. There is no cost for access and it will remain open for three months so you can take your time and enjoy the summer. All you need to do to gain access is to let us know by sending your name and institution name by email to faculty@edtekservices.com. You will be enrolled that day.

This course is based on a course audit rubric developed by the University of Dallas and the eCollege Instructional Design team. The assessment exercise facilitates a comprehensive review of your course. We also provide material on suggested Best Practices and How-To Instructions. Since teaching an online course is always a work in progress, we hope this exercise will help you to continue creating the best possible learning environment for your students and an efficient, effective teaching environment for yourself.

Exercise Objectives: As a result of working through this exercise, you will:

• Assess your online course using the self-assessment tool.
• Identify means to achieve best practices in your online course.
• Enhance your course by applying the applicable/suitable best practices.

How to work through this exercise: To proceed, follow these steps:

• Read the materials in Document Sharing to prepare for the course self-assessment.
• Complete the Assessment of your course in Unit One.
Note: you may prefer to print out the Assessment questions, also located in Doc Sharing, and score your course on paper before you complete the online version of the assessment.
• Review your assessment in the Gradebook where you will find links to relevant best practices.
• Review the Best Practices and How-To Instructions in the tutorial units that pertain to your assessment results.

Your goal in completing the course assessment is to build on your course's strengths, quality instruction and sound academic content, and to take advantage of opportunities to enhance course design and delivery. The end result should be an enhanced learning environment for you and your online students.

We hope you enjoy the course and have a safe and restful summer.

Sincerely,

Paul Jacobelli, President
